Because all editing runs locally in your browser with WebAssembly — there is no server — it does not need the internet to work. Load it once, install it as an app (PWA), and you can open and edit documents anywhere, even fully offline. Your files never leave your device.
The first time you load the page, a service worker caches the app shell and the OnlyOffice engine on your device. After that the editor starts straight from that cache, so it opens instantly and keeps working with no connection — on a plane, on the subway, or anywhere with patchy Wi-Fi. Files are opened from and saved to your own device, and you can edit DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and CSV and export to PDF, TXT, HTML or CSV, all without a network.
